As the number of violent incidents involving police and minority community members continues to rise, so do tensions across the country.

In this edition of Northwest Now, we take a closer look at a Tacoma city program that’s aimed at easing tensions with law enforcement called “Project Peace.”  We’ll hear from Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland, Police Chief Don Ramsdell, and Local NCAAP President Reverend Gregory Christopher.

“Locally, we’ve taken what I’m calling a proactive-reactive approach, because one incident could spark something…in Tacoma,” said Strickland. “But at the same time, how do we reach out to people to make sure that they feel empowered in their lives before there’s an interaction with police officers?”
