Unemployment, homelessness, and mental illness are just a few of the major problems that are facing veterans as they make their transition from military service to civilian life. On this edition of Northwest Now, we’ll take a closer look at these and other issues that our veterans are facing.
Plus, we’ll have a conversation with members from the Washington State Department of Veteran Affairs, and a member of JBLM’s Warrior Transition Battalion about what’s being done to help veterans ease their way back into civilian life.
“I thought I wouldn’t have to put much effort into it. I have a lot of skills, but I found out otherwise,” U.S. Army veteran Daniel Wermuth told Northwest Now’s Tom Layson. “The average employer doesn’t see me on my everyday job.”
We’ll also introduce you to a local group that’s training veterans for high tech jobs in the IT industry.
Northwest Now is a weekly public affairs program that airs Friday’s at 7:30 p.m. on KBTC. You can also watch past episodes and learn more about the show on the website. http://www.kbtc.org/page.php?id=369
