Join us as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with keynote speaker Erin Jones. Jones is the Tacoma School District’s director of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). The former director of equity and achievement at the Federal Way School District, Jones has been involved in education for 24 years, teaching and serving in diverse communities. Jones received recognition from the White House as a “Champion of Change” in 2013, and was the state’s Milken Educator of the Year in 2008.
Subway sandwiches will be available for purchase while they last. (Sandwiches are free to Bates students with proper ID.)

MLK’s legacy of service lives on in our annual March for MLK. You’re invited to join Bates staff, students and countless community members to march to the City of Tacoma’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
8:30 a.m. – Refreshments in the cafeteria
9 a.m. – March begins
11 a.m. – Community celebration at the trade center
A shuttle bus will be available to return marchers to the Downtown Campus.
