Frozen Food Pantry – Downtown – Monday – Friday
The Pantry exists to provide free frozen food items for all currently enrolled student at Bates Technical College, to support those experiencing a lack of resources. Interested students can receive items for free Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the ASG Center, room C 301, downtown.
Nourish Mobile Food Bank – Volunteers Needed! – Thursdays
The Nourish Pierce County Mobile Food Bank is now parking at the South Campus, 2201 S. 78th St., in Tacoma on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students at Bates Technical College and community members can obtain free perishable and non-perishable food items.

Graduating Class of 2019
Apply to Walk at Graduation
If you are eligible for graduation, you will need to apply to walk in commencement. Follow these steps:
- Complete a Commencement Registration Form
- Turn in your paperwork and pay the registration fee. (Note: the fee increases after Friday, April 26, 2019)
- Purchase your cap and gown.
Know before you go. Please attend the commencement rehearsal on May 29, 2019 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. You do not need to wear your cap and gown. Location: Bates Technical College, Auditorium – A 130 A, Downtown Campus

Food Pantry Donations! – New Info!
The ASG Center is accepting gallon Ziploc bags and food from students and staff who want to donate. These will be used to provide free lunches to students in need of food and the energy we all know it takes to be active and present in college. Please take your gallon bag donations to the ASG Center, located in room C 301, downtown. Thank you for all your amazing help!
Donations are needed immediately at South Campus; to sustain this much-needed resource for students. South Campus distributed 80 bag lunches in the short month of February, and March is seeing an increase in participation even over that level so far. Thank you for your continued collaboration to help feed hungry students!

Bates Technical College – Information Technology Specialist – PC Repair Shop
Doesn’t it seem your computer always needs repair at the worst times? Maybe we can help. The PC Repair Shop offers services such as technical support, troubleshooting, upgrades, updates, computer component replacement on desktop computers and laptops models. All work is done by current Bates Technical College students and offered to staff and students.
We charge a flat fee of $25 for troubleshooting and identifying the problems.
Devices or software licensing to solve the problem will be provided by the customer. Contact: pcrepair@BatesTech.edu for questions.
Looking For Child Care?
Bates’ Early Learning Center, located at the Downtown Campus, is available to students, staff, and community children. The center serves children ages four weeks through five years old, and offers several program models depending on families’ needs. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. The center follows the college calendar for open days.
Early Head Start is a low-cost program for families that qualify for the DSHS Working Connections Child Care Subsidy. ECEAP is a free preschool program for qualifying children ages 3-5 years. ECEAP has two program models: a six-hour, full-day program from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., or an extended-day program outside those hours.

Erin Hayden, LMHC, is available to meet with students for personal counseling. She can help support you in dealing with things like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and substance abuse. She can also help you learn to cope with academic stress, or with difficult life events like a breakup, illness, or death of a loved one. Educational Advisor – MDC
Allison Paul, Educational Advisor from MDC, is available on campus for students who need help enrolling in school and applying for financial aid. Some of the things she can help with are applying for college, completing the FAFSA, and navigating through student loan default. There is also financial assistance for registration and testing fees available for students who meet income eligibility requirements. Phi Theta Kappa News
Have a 3.5+ GPA?
If you have earned 12 college level credits, with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or above, you may be eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa, the international honors society on campus. Keep your eyes on your email for an invitation!

Apartment Guide Scholarship
We will be giving away two $2,500 scholarships for the Fall 2019 semester and would like to share this information with your undergraduates. Information and applications are available at: apartmentguide.com/students/scholarship.

Foundation Scholarships – New Info!
Scholarships from the Bates Technical College Foundation can provide financial assistance for educational expenses including tuition, exams, books, tools, program supplies and child care. If your financial aid package doesn’t cover all of your tuition, you have student loans or are a self-pay student, the Foundation can help you to focus on your education by relieving financial burdens. Each quarter, generous donors make it possible for the Foundation to offer general, program specific and endowed scholarships. For more information contact LeAnn Dreier: ldreier@BatesTech.edu .
The Bates Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce that 34 students will receive up to $31,525 in scholarship awards for spring quarter.
- Recipients must schedule a meeting with LeAnn Dreier, foundation development specialist, at 253.680.7160 or ldreier@BatesTech.edu , to complete the process to receive their scholarship awards. Failure to sign scholarship documents may lead to forfeiture of the award.
- Reminder: Tuition is due April 1, 2019.
Ellucian Scholarship – New Info!
Ellucian will award $5,000 in scholarships to (20) TWENTY STUDENTS from institutions with guided pathways programs.
- Find eligible undergraduate students for this award and encourage them to apply. They need to only submit a brief 2-minute video telling us about themselves and answer a few questions about their education goals.
- Work with the guided pathways office or champion at your institution to get proof of your guided pathways program. If you’re not sure where to start, check with Academic Affairs or Student Success.

The DEADLINE to apply is: April 26, 2019.
Unified Review Scholarship
We’re offering a $3,000 scholarship opportunity for business or marketing students, called the “Why Unified Review Scholarship” which begins on 2/1/2019 and ends on 7/1/2019 and we would be happy to have your educational institution participate by having application information available to them in your financial aid office and/or through online resources on your website.
